UOA

In a world increasingly burdened by plastic pollution, UOA explores the transformative potential of bio-material solutions in everyday products. The focus lies in creating packaging for moisturiser, body oil and lube —items often overlooked yet essential in empowering people through their everyday daily routines. These products empower individuals, but many existing packaging designs significantly contribute to plastic waste.

UOA pods, made from strong yet completely biodegradable material that decomposes in up to six weeks, represent a significant shift towards a circular economy. Users will never have to buy new bottles again, reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility.

The Story

UOA started off as a simple idea: how could we re-imagine intimate care products like lube and vaginal moisturisers - traditionally unsexy products - and make them sexy?

Initially, UOA focused on designing for women going through menopause, a hormonal change that occurs around the ages of 45-55. Among many other uncomfortable symptoms, such as hot flushes, weight changes, and brain fog, thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls, known as vaginal atrophy, affects 34% of women during menopause.

This investigation revealed that existing products often came in medical-like packaging, sometimes in single-use disposable plastic units. These products were also difficult to find, often hidden away in the corners of pharmacies in hard-to-reach places.

The primary goal was to create a product that was more accessible, both in functionality and sustainability. Resulting in a quick and easy way to dispense hydration products, suitable for use in public bathrooms or on the go, while also being environmentally friendly.

Through research and conversations with women and people with real experience of menopause, we found that discussing menopause symptoms affecting intimate areas was challenging. By including more approachable items like body oil and moisturiser, UOA hopes to bring intimate care products and practices into more conversations. â€‹
